“During surveillance and reconnaissance operations, the Royal Jordanian Air Force intercepted a drone that violated Jordanian airspace early Tuesday morning,” the military statement said.

The military added that “the drone was successfully shot down in the eastern desert, within the country’s territory.”

The statement did not specify the origin of the drone.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli military announced it had intercepted a drone near the Jordanian border, but it did not enter Israeli airspace. Israeli officials said they are still trying to determine where the device was launched from.

Jordan has repeatedly been targeted by attacks this month amid renewed tensions between Iran and the US.

On Monday, the Israeli military reported intercepting two drones near the border with Jordan, and the Jordanian military confirmed shooting them down.

This month, two US soldiers were killed in Jordan during Iranian strikes.

Amman insists there are no foreign military bases in Jordan, but under cooperation and training agreements, limited forces from several countries are deployed at some Jordanian military bases.
