This is how the chairman of TS-LKD spoke after an extraordinary meeting of the Seimas National Security and Defense Committee (NSGK), where information about the cyber attack and data theft was heard and the threats posed by it were assessed.

According to an NSGK member, it is difficult to understand why the people whose data was stolen were not informed earlier.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas admitted that they learned about the incident on April 3, while the public was informed about the large-scale data theft on May 22.

According to them, at the beginning of April there was no information that the incident was of such a large scale.

According to the opposition Liberal Movement chairwoman and NSGK member Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, all blame and responsibility are currently being sought to be assigned to the Registry Center.

After the data theft was publicly announced, Adrijus Jusas, who had led the Registry Center until then, resigned on Monday.

“The situation seems strange in the sense that politicians, including the Prime Minister and at least two ministers who knew, could have made a political decision to inform as much as would not harm the pre-trial investigation. Because that investigation is still ongoing today, but we are already talking about it publicly,” the parliamentarian said.

Meanwhile, “valstietis” Dainius Gaižauskas insisted that after the meeting it was clear why such an information procedure was chosen.

“In my opinion, the committee members received all the answers from the services, which chronologically explained how they identified the problem, the threat, what actions they took, and focused a lot on the exact time period when and why it was decided to inform the public,” he said.

The General Prosecutor’s Office is investigating possible illegal accesses and the appropriation of more than 600,000 real estate register entries, including people’s personal codes.

According to preliminary data, the thefts were carried out at the beginning of this year, and the data appropriation was noticed in early April.

Among the affected persons are President Gitanas Nausėda, military commander Raimundas Vaikšnoras, some ministers, members of the Seimas, and businessmen.
