The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that it had summoned Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksandr Polishchuk to convey its “serious concern” over the attack on the ship “MV Omorfi” on July 18.

There were three Indian citizens on board, one of whom died.
“The Ministry expressed serious concern over this incident and strongly condemned such attacks on commercial shipping,” the statement said.
O. Polishchuk was asked to convey to Kyiv that such actions, “which endanger the lives of innocent civilian seafarers, are unacceptable and must be avoided.”
Last week, New Delhi had also summoned the Russian envoy to protest an attack on a cargo ship departing from Ukraine’s Odesa port, in which four Indian citizens died.

According to the Indian Ministry of Shipping, over 320,000 Indian seafarers were actively employed in 2025.
Following the recent attacks, New Delhi issued a series of security warnings to ships sailing to the Black Sea, which fly the local flag or employ the country’s seafarers.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 14 Indian seafarers also died in attacks on ships during the war in the Middle East.
