Iran warned Ukraine

Iran warned Ukraine

“This action by Ukraine was completely illegal and unjustified, contrary to the United Nations Charter, as well as a dangerous act of adventurism that will certainly not go unanswered by us,” said ministry spokesman Esmaeilis Baqaei during a weekly press conference.

He added that the consequences of Ukraine’s actions “will certainly be unforeseen.”

Iran on Saturday accused Ukraine of carrying out an attack on one of its merchant ships in the Caspian Sea, stating that an explosion occurred during the attack, killing one sailor and injuring another.

Tehran called the attack on the ship an “act of aggression” and stated that it would defend its national interests and security. In turn, the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine’s interim chargé d’affaires in Tehran.

Later, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during phone conversations with European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, stated that Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian merchant ship “cannot go unanswered.”

Said whether they fear a strike

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Kyiv had launched long-range strikes against ships in the Caspian Sea carrying military cargo related to Iran.

In an interview with Sky News, Zelenskyy commented on Tehran’s new threats.

According to him, Iran has long attacked Ukraine by supplying Russia with “Shahed” drones, their production technologies, and other weaponry.

“From the very first years of the war, Iran provided Russia with a new base, new technologies. These were ‘Shahed’ type drones. In the first years of the war, they delivered thousands of these drones. Later, they provided licenses. What did they do? Did they attack us? I think so,” the president emphasized.

Zelenskyy stated that a new front cannot be allowed to open, but it must be taken into account that both Iran and North Korea are already effectively participating in the war.

“We must be careful. We must do everything not to open a new front in any way. But we must be honest: the Iranians and North Koreans have already attacked us,” he noted.

Zelenskyy hopes that Iran will not intensify attacks, but, according to him, “we need to be prepared for anything.”

“We cannot trust these people, because at the very beginning, without any escalation on our part, the Iranians supplied weapons (to Russia),” he said.
