Violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank has intensified since the war in the Gaza Strip began, provoked by Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

According to the army, Saturday’s confrontation occurred in the Susya hilltop settlement in the southern West Bank, where Israelis and Palestinians threw stones at each other.
“Later, a terrorist stole a weapon from one of the (Israeli) civilians and shots were fired into the air,” the army stated.
“In addition, one Israeli civilian was injured during the stone-throwing and was evacuated for medical treatment,” the army said, adding that soldiers were searching for “the terrorist and had set up roadblocks in the area.”
Palestinian officials have not yet commented on the incident.
On Friday, a similar clash between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the village of Tel in the northern West Bank resulted in the deaths of two Israelis and four Palestinians.

Excluding East Jerusalem, more than 500,000 Israelis live in West Bank settlements, which are illegal under international law.
According to Israeli data, at least 48 Israelis, including civilians and security forces members, have been killed in Palestinian attacks or Israeli military operations since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip.
According to AFP calculations, based on data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at least 1,097 Palestinians, including militants and civilians, have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers during the same period.
