„The beginning of the season was quite interesting. Chanterelles appeared around mid-June, but there weren’t many of them. Later, a heatwave hit, which almost stopped their growth. After the heat, when it rained, the mushrooms started to sprout again, and now there are quite a lot of chanterelles,“ Vidmantas Budrikis, commercial director of “Tandemus”, told 15min.

However, according to him, this year’s weather affected the quality of the mushrooms. Due to heat and rain, chanterelles are not always suitable for fresh sale.

„Due to rain and hot weather, chanterelles are not suitable for the fresh market – they are more suitable for freezing,“ said V.Budrikis.

Marius Juškevičius, a representative of the company “M&KO”, also mentioned the poorer quality of chanterelles this year. He agreed with V.Budrikis that some chanterelles are no longer suitable for export as fresh produce.

„Mostly very small chanterelles are found, and larger ones are often damaged, so they are not always suitable for fresh produce export,“ the interlocutor said.
