P. Jelizarov added that he will continue to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and called M. Fedorov’s dismissal a “great evil for the country’s defense capability.”
“In 2022, I joined the Defense Forces to win, not to simulate activity. I believe in Ukraine’s future!” the officer wrote.
Earlier, M. Fedorov published a list of his achievements as minister, highlighting Pavel (Lazary) Jelizarov’s integration into the Air Forces and the implementation of the After Action Review procedure for every mass attack. During that time, the drone interception rate increased from 83% to 91%, and the cruise missile interception rate from 47% to 87%, M. Fedorov stated.
The magazine “The Economist” wrote that M. Fedorov faced strong resistance from the military leadership regarding his reforms, despite achievements in developing drone technologies and digitizing the army.
The vote in the Verkhovna Rada on the new government composition is scheduled for July 16. Meanwhile, protests against M. Fedorov’s dismissal have already begun in Kyiv – people took to the capital’s streets urging not to dismiss the minister.
Zelensky explained why he dismissed Fedorov
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, explaining the ruling party “Servant of the People” faction’s decision to dismiss Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, said the main reason was the deepening conflict between the minister and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

According to one faction member, the president clearly found it difficult to talk about this decision. He reportedly spent almost ten minutes choosing his words and trying to explain why he decided to part ways with one of his closest comrades.
The greatest interest among parliamentarians was precisely about M. Fedorov’s future. Asked about it, V. Zelensky said he could no longer tolerate the constant conflict between the Ministry of Defense and the military leadership.
According to the president, M. Fedorov aimed to fully digitize the defense system, while the army primarily wanted its needs on the front to be taken into account.
Quarreled with Syrskyi
“The army asks to buy certain weapons, but he refuses and funds other areas. They simply stopped listening to each other,” one faction member quoted V. Zelensky as saying.
Another source said the president described the situation even more harshly. According to him, O. Syrskyi constantly complained that the Ministry of Defense did not provide the necessary support for specific operations, while M. Fedorov responded that all the required equipment had been delivered, but the army was using it improperly.
