During the project preparation phase, IT specialists responsible for equipment installation throughout Lithuania were trained, a training program for restaurant employees was prepared, and in Finland, self-service software adapted to Lithuanian laws and requirements was created, with close cooperation between Finnish and Lithuanian teams.

An important project stage – the pilot implementation of self-service checkouts in Panevėžys and Šiauliai restaurants at the end of 2025. The pilot phase allowed evaluating customer habits, collecting feedback from employees and visitors, and, before implementing the system throughout Lithuania, improving the functionality and software of the self-service checkouts.
Customers choose self-service more often
Currently in Lithuania, depending on the restaurant, on average 20–30% of all orders are made through self-service checkouts, and in some restaurants this figure already reaches about 40%. According to company data, self-service usage grows by 2–3% each month, so it is expected that more and more customers will choose this ordering method in the future.

According to Ieva Salmela, Communications and International Marketing Director at “Hesburger,” self-service checkouts have been equally successful both in large cities and regions. They are most actively used by younger customers, but the popularity of self-service is steadily growing throughout Lithuania.
Currently, the “Hesburger” restaurant chain operates more than 490 restaurants in 9 countries, of which 179 are in the Baltic countries.
