A person who fell overboard off the coast of Mexico tragically died on Monday, July 13. The “Regal Princess,” which departed from the port of Fort Lauderdale in the United States on Saturday, July 11, confirmed that a crew member fell overboard.

The company operating the ship, “Princess Cruises,” issued a statement after local authorities and the “Carnival Jubilee” crew assisted in conducting search and rescue operations.
Passengers were informed about the grim incident as the ship sailed along the coast of Cancun. The captain announced that a person had fallen overboard, but at that time, vacationers did not yet know that it was a crew member.
CBS News Miami interviewed passenger David Jimenez, who said the search lasted about eight hours until it was reported that the crew member had unfortunately died.
“Sometimes the ship slowed down and sailed in circles. Then it returned and circled again. They followed procedures but informed people every hour,” he said.
The cruise company stated: “During this difficult time, we sincerely sympathize with the family and friends of the crew member. Psychological support is offered to guests and crew members affected by this incident.”

“Princess Cruises” also thanked local maritime authorities and colleagues from “Carnival Jubilee” who assisted in the search and rescue operation.
Passengers were informed about the incident as the “Regal Princess” sailed to Cozumel – an island in Mexico.
Despite the tragedy, the ship continued its journey and was scheduled to dock in Belize on Tuesday.
After a short seven-day cruise in the Caribbean, the ship was expected to return to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, July 18.
