As data shows, 43 percent of respondents claimed to know where the nearest shelter is, but were not sure, while 31 percent of residents at that time neither knew where to find it nor had any interest in it.

People aged 30–49 most often knew exactly where to find shelter, with the poorest knowledge among the age group over 65 years old.
Data by respondents’ places of residence shows that in cities, villages, and metropolitan areas, there are more people who do not know or doubt where to find shelters than those who know exactly. 21.2 percent of rural residents, 18.3 percent of city residents, and 24.3 percent of metropolitan residents know exactly where to find shelter.
“Baltijos tyrimai” conducted the survey from June 19 to 30, interviewing 1010 Lithuanian residents aged 18 and older in their homes, with a margin of error not exceeding 3.1 percentage points.
Commenting on the LRT survey results, Minister of the Interior Martynas Katelynas said that “residents themselves should make more effort to find out information and make decisions personally for themselves.”

The issue of shelters became relevant after air danger was declared twice in parts of Lithuania in mid-May due to drones possibly violating airspace and the threat of an air attack.
After the orders to go to shelters were canceled, reports appeared in the public space that some schools led students to the stadium during the air danger or told them to finish writing a test.
At the beginning of June, the Ministry of the Interior announced that there are currently over 6.6 thousand shelters in Lithuanian municipalities, where about 1.6 million people could hide – this accounts for 57 percent of the country’s population.
In Lithuanian cities, shelters should be sufficient for at least 60 percent of residents, and in district municipalities – 40 percent.
