With secondary illegal migration flows from the neighboring country not subsiding, Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas said in an interview with BNS that he does not rule out the possibility of restoring temporary border control.
Last summer, Warsaw made such a decision regarding Lithuania and Germany due to the increased flow of migrants.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, comparing January–June of this year and last year, the flow of secondary migration from Latvia has increased fourfold – from just over 300 to more than 1,200 foreigners.
Meanwhile, according to VSAT data, one attempt to illegally enter the country was recorded at the Polish border on Monday.

This year, a total of 903 illegal migrants were not allowed into Lithuania. Last year, there were more than 1,600 attempts to enter the country illegally from Belarus, and the year before that, the number was 1,002.
Since the beginning of the migration crisis caused by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,500 foreigners from illegally entering the country.
The influx of migrants into the eastern EU members from Belarus began in 2021, with the West accusing the Minsk regime of organizing it.
