Based on material from the Albanian agency fighting organized crime, Reuters reported last week that Miami-based businessman Artur Shehu may have forged property documents, according to Polish public broadcaster TVP.

Albanian prosecutors have also issued a search for A. Shehu, who denies all charges, on suspicion of laundering money obtained from drug trafficking. His lawyer told Reuters that A. Shehu “is neither a drug smuggler nor a forger of real estate documents.” According to him, his client “claims that the truth is completely different from what the prosecution states.”
The real estate project on the southern coast of Albania has previously faced protests over concerns that it could harm protected coastal areas.
As Reuters reports, A. Shehu sold land in April to the company Sazan Real Estate Development, owned by a group of project developers supported by J. Kushner, who told the agency they believe the land ownership documents are legitimate.

It is reported that Albanian authorities have frozen about 110 million euros used to purchase the land and issued arrest warrants for twenty individuals on charges of drug smuggling and money laundering related to this case.
Residents living near the planned construction site claim the land belongs to them. They are disputing this matter in court, hoping to prevent the resort’s construction.
