This was the latest wave of long-range attacks targeting Russia’s energy and logistics infrastructure.
The governor of Russia’s Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorichev, stated that one person was killed and three others were injured, including a child, during the Ukrainian attack in southwestern Russia.
He also indicated that residential houses and apartment buildings were damaged in the strike, as well as an unspecified “industrial facility.”
Russian media reported that the target of the attack was the Syzran oil refinery in the region, and many shared images showing columns of black smoke rising above the facility.
The refinery, owned by the oil and gas giant Rosneft and located about 800 km east of the border, has been targeted by Ukrainian forces multiple times.
Meanwhile, the governor of Russia’s Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar, reported that a tanker was damaged in a drone attack in the Azov-Black Sea shipping channel. According to Y. Slyusar, the tanker was empty, so there is no threat of an oil spill.
Kiev, in turn, reported that it attacked 10 Russian tankers and four ferries sailing in the Sea of Azov, bordering Russia and Ukraine.
It is claimed that the tankers were part of the so-called Russian shadow fleet used to export oil and oil products circumventing international sanctions, while the ferries supported Russian military logistics.
Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries and other infrastructure across Russia have caused a widespread fuel crisis – several regions are experiencing gasoline shortages, it is rationed, and drivers wait for hours to fill their tanks.
Moscow responded by intensifying the bombing of Kiev and other cities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure as part of Kiev’s “long-range sanctions” campaign, carried out in response to Moscow’s refusal to stop the offensive that has lasted for more than four years.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated on Sunday that it attacked the ports of Odessa and Chornomorsk in Ukraine’s Odessa region.

Ukrainian officials have not yet commented on these claims.
