As already reported by the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nepal Tourism Department has supplemented the list of persons considered missing. It includes all 33 Latvian citizens about whom relatives reported to the Consular Department of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The data of one person was incorrectly indicated, and this information was passed on to the Honorary Consul of Latvia.

The Latvian Embassy in India maintains contact with the country’s institutions to find out which Indian institution will collect information about missing persons, as the Nepal Tourism Department does.

The Honorary Consul of Latvia in Nepal reports that in the flood-affected region, only a few of the found deceased have been identified so far. Other remains are in temporary storage locations and hospitals.
It is no longer possible to identify many of the deceased due to the condition of the remains, and further storage poses a risk of infections and epidemics. Therefore, the responsible authority of the Chitwan district decided to respectfully bury the remains. Before burial, a DNA sample will be taken from each body and registered.

To enable faster identification of Latvian citizens, first-degree relatives (parents and children) of missing Latvian citizens in Nepal are invited to voluntarily provide their DNA samples at the Latvian State Police Forensic Department.
