It is reported that the flying drone spotted near the Ukrainian aircraft may have been shot down by a bus driver present there.
Leipzig/Halle Airport is the base of the Ukrainian airline “Antonov Airlines.” It is also one of the most important cargo hubs in Europe and is important for military logistics. Among other things, military cargo of the German armed forces and NATO allies is transported through this airport.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt called the incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport a hybrid attack, which means “a new level of threat.”
Berlin did not accuse anyone, but A. Dobrindt said that a “foreign state” could have contributed to this incident, which occurred after sabotage, espionage, and a disinformation campaign for which security services blame Russia.
Speculation about Russia’s links to the incident arose after US intelligence concluded that Russian leader Vladimir Putin poses an increased threat to NATO’s eastern flank.
