Women are restless: neither the beach's location nor its size is suitable

“I would like to know why the women’s beach in Smiltynė, near the New Ferry, was abolished last year? It had been there for many years, but now there is no marking in that place. It can be understood that anyone can relax there.

For us, women, the beach left in Smiltynė is only beyond the Old Ferry towards the Maritime Museum. How to reach it, for example, by crossing with the new ferry without a car?”, – complains one Klaipėda resident.

According to her, relaxing as they used to in the old place is no longer safe, as other vacationers wander in, and there are no signs.

The nudist beach, which is almost in the middle of all beaches, is also not an option, as it is quite difficult to reach on foot.

During the season, it was possible to go to the beach in the old location by taxi, but how can one reach the women’s beach from the New Ferry on foot? Is there no possibility to return our former place?”, – wonders the dissatisfied woman.

The municipality has no good news for women. Last year, after new beach boundaries were established and approved by Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus’s order, there are no plans to change or adjust them.

According to Žigintas Narmontas, director of PI “Klaipėdos paplūdimiai”, after the changes in Smiltynė, only a general beach remained near the New Ferry, which extends for 600 m., and near the Old Ferry, the length of the general beach is 1200 m. The area designated for women is 600 meters long, for men – 300 m., for nudists – 200 m.

Lifeguards, according to Ž. Narmontas, are on duty only on general beaches, and the women’s beach is conveniently accessible by using the Old Ferry.

Last year, when the beach locations were changed, we wrote that summer started stormily.

Disturbances and conflicts among vacationers began on the beaches, in which lifeguards were also involved.

Not noticing the signs indicating the redistributed beach boundaries, women sunbathed naked on general beaches, and nudists were bothered by families with children who encroached on their territory.

Information for nudists has been repeatedly published in the press.

“We inform you that as of this season, there is no women’s beach near the New Ferry. All beaches have boundary markers indicating the end of the beach, and informational signs are placed on the paths in the foredunes, indicating the names of the beaches (e.g., general beach, nudist beach).

At all central entrances to the beaches, there are also stands with beach maps. The same information with schemes is also provided on the website of PI “Klaipėdos paplūdimiai””, – “Klaipėdos paplūdimiai” disseminated the information last year.
