The witchy story of “Practical Magic” has enchanted movie lovers and still fascinates since 1998. Although the film initially did not achieve impressive success in cinemas, the story of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman eventually became a beloved romantic fantasy drama about a family of women witches living on the US East Coast. The Owens family is cursed: any man who dares to love one of them is doomed to die.
For decades, the film, imbued with autumnal landscapes, colored the October evenings of millennial and Gen Z viewers. And the new version of this film, “Practical Magic 2,” released in 2026, is ready to enchant another generation of viewers.
There is no doubt: TikTok will be full of filmed tutorials recommending how to curl hair, and the whimsigoth aesthetic will once again establish itself in makeup trends.
“Younger people are still huge fans of the original ‘Practical Magic,’ even though they weren’t even born when the film was released,” says the main makeup artist of the sequel, Graham Johnston.
Almost three decades after the premiere of the first film, magic returns. And at least two things can be revealed without spoiling the plot: this time there is even more of it, and the makeup and hairstyles are no less desirable than in 1998.
Worldwide, including in Lithuanian cinemas, the film “Practical Magic 2” begins screening on September 11.
