What did these objects mean? A team of scientists, led by archaeologist Dariusz Poliński from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland, searched for answers for four years and recently published their findings in the journal “Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports”.
The researchers’ analysis shows that the local inhabitants considered this woman – now called Zosia – a threat. For reasons still unclear, she was blamed for causing disasters such as disease or famine. To protect themselves, so that Zosia would not rise again and cause chaos, people first locked her toe, and later returned to the grave and placed a sickle over her neck, according to “Smithsonian magazine”.
