Warsaw’s system will monitor airspace and record drone activity, allowing authorities to detect potential threats earlier and respond faster than is currently possible, city press representative Monika Beuth explained to the newspaper “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

Currently, according to her, authorities often learn about drones only when they are spotted and reported by witnesses.

In September 2025, when Russia launched a large-scale attack against Ukraine, 19 Russian drones entered Polish airspace, and several of them were shot down by Polish and NATO aircraft.

In July, a Russian cruise missile entered Polish territory and crashed near the eastern village of Tarnawa Kolonia.

Sensitive locations

Warsaw’s system is expected to cover several locations in the city center, although officials do not disclose which ones specifically.

As reported by “Gazeta Wyborcza,” Jaroslaw Misztal, head of Warsaw’s Security Center – the city’s crisis management and security agency – said that authorities are considering protecting government and parliamentary facilities.

“We follow a policy of not boasting about everything we do for security,” he noted.

The equipment is planned to be purchased this year. The Warsaw city municipality will cover 20% of the costs, and the remaining 80% will be financed by the government’s Civil Safety and Civil Defense program.

Other European cities have also strengthened drone protection. Paris installed radars, cameras, and jammers for the 2024 Olympic Games, while Denmark and Germany expanded drone defense capabilities after an increase in incidents around airports and sensitive sites.
