VST recorded six unauthorized drone flights near airports, administrative proceedings are being initiated

As VST announced on its Facebook page on Friday, one such flight was recorded on the afternoon of May 29 near Kaunas Airport. The detained Lithuanian citizen explained that he used the drone for work purposes – to inspect solar power plant equipment.

A similar violation was identified on the evening of May 30, when a person flying a drone near Kaunas Airport claimed to have inspected a house roof that had been repaired after renovation.

Another unauthorized flight near Kaunas Airport was recorded on the evening of June 1. The detained Lithuanian citizen stated that he was carrying out geodesic measurements with the unmanned aerial vehicle.

On the same day, around 7:10 PM, an unauthorized drone operator was detained for flying the device near Palanga Airport. The person explained to officials that he wanted to film an event.

Near Vilnius Airport, on the afternoon of June 3, an unmanned aerial vehicle operator was detained and stated that he was learning to control the drone.

Another unauthorized drone flight was recorded on the morning of June 5 near Kaunas Airport; the pilot stated that he was filming real estate for work purposes.

According to VST data, none of the mentioned individuals had the right to carry out flights in these airspace zones. Airport operations and aircraft flights were not disrupted due to the violations.

Administrative proceedings have been initiated or are being prepared for all six cases under the article of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which provides for responsibility for violating aircraft usage rules. Individuals face fines ranging from 400 to 800 euros.

Before carrying out flights, VST urges individuals to familiarize themselves with the valid requirements and ensure that flights are permitted in the chosen location, even when operating drones for work, study, or leisure purposes.
