The newspaper “Aftonbladet” reported that Sweden intends to announce the transfer of older C and D model “JAS 39 Gripen” fighters to Ukraine and start negotiations for the sale of the newer E model to Kyiv.
The countries signed a memorandum of intent in October 2025 regarding the sale of 100–150 “Gripen E” aircraft to Kyiv.
V. Zelensky and U. Kristersson will hold a joint press conference at 11 a.m. Greenwich time (2 p.m. Lithuanian time) at the air force base in Uppsala, located about 70 km north of Stockholm.
The memorandum of intent was not binding, no specific dates were indicated, but U. Kristersson then said that the first aircraft could be delivered to Ukraine “within three years” if everything went according to plan.

“Gripen is one of our military’s priorities,” V. Zelensky said last October.
Sweden previously suspended plans to send “Gripen” fighters to Ukraine – after partner countries requested priority be given to American F-16s.
