A post is spreading on social media claiming that the true story of the COVID-19 pandemic is only now becoming clear, but society and the mainstream media are deliberately ignoring the revealed truth.

The author of the post claims that during the pandemic, the public was systematically lied to, and the media not only spread false information but also contributed to hiding it.
As proven facts, the author presents several claims: that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was a human-made biological weapon that later “escaped” and killed millions of people, that mask-wearing and social distancing recommendations had no scientific basis and were “fabricated,” and that COVID-19 vaccines were neither safe nor effective.
It is also claimed that then U.S. chief infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci and government agencies knew all this and later tried to conceal the true origin of the pandemic and the circumstances of its management together with the media.
The fact that these claims do not receive much media attention is presented in the post as additional evidence of a conspiracy – that mainstream media outlets avoid the topic because they would have to admit they were wrong and contributed to “crimes against humanity.”
However, such reasoning does not prove any of the listed claims by itself. Some of them are based on real discussions about pandemic management mistakes or the still-investigated origin of SARS-CoV-2, but these circumstances are mixed in the post with much broader and unfounded claims, presenting them as confirmed facts.
Claim: “COVID-19 was created by humans”
It is important to distinguish the discussion about a possible SARS-CoV-2 laboratory leak from the claim that the virus was deliberately created by humans. The U.S. intelligence community has not yet reached a consensus on the origin of the pandemic.
In January 2025, the CIA stated that SARS-CoV-2 may have originated from a laboratory-related incident and considers this scenario somewhat more likely than natural virus transmission from animals to humans.
However, the agency emphasized that it assesses this conclusion with only “low confidence” – in other words, the available evidence is insufficient for a firm conclusion, so both laboratory and natural origin versions remain possible.
The FBI and the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as other intelligence agencies, lean toward the natural origin scenario.
Nevertheless, none of these conclusions confirm the claim circulating on social media that the virus causing COVID-19 was a “human-made biological weapon.”

It is important to distinguish this from the laboratory origin hypothesis: even those agencies that consider a laboratory-related incident more likely speak of a possible accidental virus entry into the human population during research, not of deliberate biological weapon creation or release.
A declassified U.S. intelligence assessment from 2021 also did not provide data confirming the claim that the virus causing the COVID-19 pandemic was intentionally created as a weapon.

Claim: “Masks and social distancing were made-up nonsense”
Scientific studies do not confirm the claim that masks or physical distancing measures were completely ineffective.
A systematic review and meta-analysis published in 2020 in the journal The Lancet showed that both greater physical distance and wearing face masks were associated with a lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission.
It was found that mask use was associated with a lower risk of laboratory-confirmed respiratory viral infections – about an 80% reduction for healthcare workers and about 47% for people working in other settings.
Physical distancing measures were similarly assessed: state-level restrictions in the U.S. were associated with about a 0.9% lower average daily COVID-19 case growth rate and about a 2% lower mortality growth rate.
So, one can discuss the scale of specific measures, their duration, or relative effectiveness, but scientific data do not allow the claim that they were simply “made-up nonsense.”
Claim: “Vaccines were not safe and effective”
The claim that COVID-19 vaccines were neither safe nor effective is not supported by clinical trial data or subsequent vaccination monitoring data.
A systematic review and meta-analysis published in 2021, covering 25 studies, showed that vaccines significantly reduced the risk of COVID-19: the overall effectiveness of adenovirus vector vaccines was about 73%, and mRNA vaccines about 85%.
Vaccine safety and effectiveness have continued to be evaluated after billions of people were vaccinated. In March 2026, an independent evidence review published in The New England Journal of Medicine concluded that the accumulated peer-reviewed scientific data continue to support the benefits and acceptable safety profile of COVID-19 vaccines, as well as flu and RSV vaccines, for the 2025–2026 season.
This does not mean that COVID-19 vaccines have no side effects or that their effectiveness is the same in all circumstances – rare severe adverse reactions have been identified, and protection against infection wanes over time.
However, this fundamentally differs from the absolute claim spread on social media that vaccines were generally “unsafe and ineffective.”
15min verdict: lacks context. The post presents real and ongoing discussions about the origin of SARS-CoV-2 and pandemic management decisions as evidence that a large-scale conspiracy has already been revealed to the public.
However, the available data do not support such conclusions. U.S. intelligence agencies disagree on whether the virus entered the human population naturally or due to a laboratory-related incident, but none have determined that SARS-CoV-2 was deliberately created as a biological weapon.
Scientific research data also refute categorical claims that masks and physical distancing were worthless and that COVID-19 vaccines were ineffective and unsafe.
Mistakes were made during the pandemic, recommendations changed as new data accumulated, and the justification of some decisions remains debated, but this is not proof that the pandemic and its management were a deliberately created deception.
