Varaška sparkled with criticism of Nausėda: how much cynicism the president can have

„Lithuania is in the third day of a deepening crisis. The disaster has toppled tens of thousands of buildings, roads, crossings. 270,000 users or at least 600,000 people are without electricity. The BPC and ESO ‘systems’ collapsed already on Saturday evening. That same evening and night, just like 2 years ago, hundreds of communication towers ran out of power – disconnected. Tens of thousands of people’s phones ran out of battery within a day. Hundreds of traffic lights and crossings are still not working.

Railway controllers are standing by. To put it bluntly – the state security systems again proved worthless. They were not cut off by some Russian or Chinese cyber-attack, but by a non-political Mother Nature,” Varaška said.

According to him, on Sunday and today, the shortage of drinking water, food, medicine, and hygiene supplies is growing across the country.

“Following behind is agriculture, the food industry, small shops left without electricity. ESO’s reports change every hour. Electricity restoration is promised to many only after 2-4 days. Municipalities, understanding the growing disaster, are declaring emergency situations. Some ministries are approaching such a decision.

I have not listed everything yet, but everything is really spinning before our eyes. We cannot keep up with patching holes, responding to calls. We absorb emotions, curses, despair. We will not perform miracles in municipalities. Maybe no one would do that now,” the mayor insists.

Varaška claims to especially miss the example and support of state leaders. He also criticized Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.

“It’s cruel, but there is nothing like it. The Lithuanian president simply does not exist. These days he is with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Not with the Lithuanian people. Until now, the president has not said a word about Lithuania’s situation.

The First Lady managed to show three dresses. I support Ukraine, but I no longer understand how much cynicism or inadequacy the president can have regarding his country’s crisis.

If it is impossible to return to convene services, give tasks, bang a fist on the table, then at least visit one district, the victims, express human sympathy. Unfortunately,” M. Varaška concludes the post.

15min reminds that Kazlų Rūda municipality decided on Monday to declare an emergency situation due to the consequences of the storm. Mayor Mantas Varaška told BNS on Monday that without an emergency situation, the municipality cannot call on statutory organizations, soldiers.

He also emphasized that the municipality is facing a drinking water crisis, and there are areas where roads are impassable and residents need food delivered.

According to the mayor, since mobile communication has not been restored everywhere in the municipality, the municipality does not know how many residents need help.

M. Varaška stressed that the coming days will be critical in ensuring the essential needs of residents.
