At least 25 baits with rabies vaccine will be scattered per square kilometer. In total, 505,000 baits with this vaccine will be distributed across the territory of Lithuania. If favorable meteorological conditions prevail, the autumn vaccination of wild animals against rabies is planned to be completed by November 20 of this year.
Baits with the LYSVULPEN vaccine, a live vaccine, oral suspension, registered in the Republic of Lithuania and included in the Lithuanian Republic veterinary medicinal products register, will be used to vaccinate wild animals.
VMVT draws attention that baits with rabies vaccine will be scattered in forests, meadows, and fields. They will not be distributed over cities, settlements, homesteads, rivers, or lakes. However, residents may find baits with vaccine or its remnants in their home territories. Baits can be carried by wild animals, large birds, and domestic animals: cats, dogs. The vaccine is harmless to pets. The density of vaccine scattered in the environment is very low: baits are dropped from an aircraft flying 0.5 km apart in parallel strips, approximately every 100 m from each other.

If baits with rabies vaccine are found, they must not be touched, collected, or otherwise destroyed. If it is suspected that a bait with vaccine is found in an inappropriate place, inform VMVT by phone 1879 (higher rates may apply) or +370 5 242 0108 (suitable for calls from abroad), or by email info@vmvt.lt.
VMVT emphasizes the important contribution of hunters in the fight against rabies. For each fox or raccoon dog hunted in the vaccination zone and delivered for testing to the VMVT territorial division, a payment of 10 euros is made. These tests help assess the effectiveness of vaccination and prevent the spread of the disease.
