The senator expressed hope that US business representatives will more resolutely appeal to President Donald Trump and Congress, urging them to show US power to force V. Putin to sit at the negotiating table and end this war.
“The Hammer for Putin”
According to him, the House of Representatives is expected to consider a bill on so-called “hellish” sanctions against Russia next month. One of its authors, R. Blumenthal, called this document a tool that should significantly increase pressure on Moscow.
As Reuters writes, the Democrat noted that the document is also receiving strong Republican support in the House of Representatives.
R. Blumenthal emphasized that this bill should become a “hammer” for the Kremlin’s master, who understands only the language of force.

“Putin understands only force. And the bill on sanctions against Russia is a hammer that can have the kind of power Putin understands,” he explained.
The mentioned document provides for sanctions against high-ranking Russian officials. In addition, it will give US President D. Trump the power to impose tariffs of up to 100% on the largest Russian oil and gas buyers.
This refers to China and India. It is likely that such a mechanism could reduce the revenues Moscow receives from energy exports and uses to finance the war against Ukraine.
