According to the report, the investigation will aim to objectively and impartially assess the reports that have appeared in the public about the situation at the US embassy, protecting the rights and privacy of all involved persons and maintaining the confidentiality of the process.

“The MFA takes every piece of information about possible work environment, professional ethics, or other work-related issues seriously. Various preventive and support measures have been implemented to ensure employee well-being and psychological health. Employees have the opportunity to anonymously report possible cases of equal opportunity violations, violence, or harassment at work,” the ministry states.

The portal “Delfi” published last week that some employees of the embassy in Washington contacted the MFA, reporting disrespectful behavior by the ambassador, raised voice, and long working hours.

G. Varvuolis has been serving as Lithuania’s ambassador to the US since August 1 of last year.

BNS, in turn, wrote that representatives of the opposition Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) are trying to organize informal talks to discuss ambassador G. Varvuolis’s work.

According to BNS, the invitation from the Vice-Chairman of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee (URK), Žygimantas Pavilionis, and former Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė to talk with TS-LKD members reached the entire embassy staff, using certain personnel members to disseminate the information.

Ž. Pavilionis confirmed to BNS that he communicates with embassy employees. Among other things, during the talks, they have confided about G. Varvuolis’s work, and I. Šimonytė stated that she has not directly communicated with the staff at the Lithuanian representation in Washington for a long time.

As BNS said, URK chairman and social democrat Remigijus Motuzas, a committee meeting will be held at the end of August, where the MFA leadership will provide information about the current situation.
