The French tennis player, who started in Mexico five days ago, had only three wins in ATP tour matches, but after winning five consecutive victories, he became one of the most unexpected ATP champions this season.
“I can’t imagine how I managed to win all these matches. I just enjoyed the victories every day, and they kept increasing. In the end, I finished with the trophy in my hands, so it was an incredible week,” the winner said, struggling to find words.
A. Gea became only the sixth tennis player born in 2005 or later to win an ATP title. This list also includes players like Joao Fonseca, Jakub Mensik, Learner Tien, Rafael Jodar, and Juncheng Shang.

The Frenchman, who secured 138 thousand US dollars and 250 ATP ranking points, will enter the Top 100 for the first time in his career – he is now projected to be ranked 81st.
