The independent news portal “Mediazona” reported that this was the longest drone strike on Russia since Moscow began its offensive in Ukraine in 2022.

“Today a drone attack on an industrial facility in Novy Urengoy was repelled. The fallen drone debris caused a fire,” reported Dmitry Artyukhov, governor of Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, on the Telegram platform.
“The most important thing is that there are no casualties or injuries. The extent and nature of the damage are currently being determined,” he added.
Novy Urengoy, home to about 100,000 people, is located slightly south of Russia’s North Pole.
The Ukrainian weapons company “Fire Point” stated in a social media post that the drone “covered more than 3,300 km and successfully hit the target.”
Artyom Zoga, the Kremlin’s special representative in the Ural region, said this was the first strike in the Arctic part of this region.
Ukraine has intensified its long-range strikes on Russia in recent months in response to Moscow’s daily bombardment of Ukrainian cities and towns.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in early September that as long as the war continues, his country’s drones will make Russian airspace “completely unsafe.”
“Mediazona” also reported that the strike appeared to be aimed at an energy facility.
