Iranian and Omani officials have been negotiating for several weeks about the future shipping arrangements on this route, and Tehran’s Foreign Ministry announced earlier on Monday that the two countries are preparing a joint declaration.
However, D. Trump has repeatedly claimed that this strait, which Tehran effectively closed when the war in the Middle East began on February 28, is controlled by the United States, although traffic there remains restricted.
On Friday, D. Trump declared that he would even declare the Strait of Hormuz as part of U.S. territory, and Iran responded that this vital waterway for energy exports, which it has blocked, “will remain Iranian.”
Before the U.S. and Israel started a war against Iran, the Strait of Hormuz was considered an open international waterway. A large portion of the world’s energy cargo, as well as other goods, is transported through it.
Tehran has effectively used control of the strait as leverage against U.S.-led efforts to destroy its military and force it to abandon its controversial nuclear energy program.

The Iranian coast stretches along the northern side of the Strait of Hormuz, while Oman’s lies along the southern side.
According to T. Yingst’s post on the social network “X” about the conversation with the country’s leader, D. Trump also stated that Iran should “raise the white flag of surrender.”
D. Trump claimed he is in no rush to make a deal, despite the fact that, with the U.S. midterm elections approaching in November, the war is very unpopular among Americans, and the opposition Democrats are seeking to take control of Congress from D. Trump’s Republicans.
D. Trump told T. Yingst that there is a direct unofficial connection between his administration and Iranian Revolutionary Guard officials.
“They are good poker players, but they lose,” the Fox News journalist quoted him as saying.
