Part of US superstar Taylor Swift’s music has been removed from videos posted by Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House on social media, Reuters reported on Sunday.
Trump’s team used two of Swift’s songs on their TikTok account just last week. The president’s communication also played with the titles of the artist’s works, adapting them to messages about immigration, the previous Joe Biden and Kamala Harris administration, and Trump himself.
This is not the first time Trump’s team has used Swift’s work.
Earlier, the White House used Swift’s song “High Infidelity” in a video about the Artemis II astronauts meeting with the president.
However, the political relationship between Trump and one of the world’s most popular artists is far from friendly.
Swift publicly supported Trump’s opponent, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, in the 2024 US presidential election. She also strongly criticized Trump during the 2020 campaign.
The president himself has also publicly attacked the artist multiple times. After her support for Harris, he posted on social media that he hates Swift, and later made mocking comments about her again.
Swift is not the only artist whose work has been used by Trump’s political team. Reuters notes that dozens of musicians have asked the president’s administration not to use their works. Among them are Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter.
It remains unclear who specifically initiated the removal of Swift’s songs and for what reason this was done.
Reuters reached out for comments to the White House and the artist’s representatives but had not received any by the time of publication.
