On Thursday, K. Nawrocki visited Włodawa, where he participated in the commemoration of the 1939 Soviet aggression against Poland. The head of state visited the graves of Polish army soldiers and laid a wreath.

A quote from K. Nawrocki’s speech was shared on the President’s Chancellery social network “X”: “We are a nation that can lose territory, but will never lose its soul; we can give up territory, but will never give up our Homeland.”
Tusk’s strike
This statement was strongly reacted to by the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. “Mr. President, I suggest deleting this post. We do not intend to give up an inch of our territory,” wrote the head of government on the social network “X,” notes “Polsat News.”
The Prime Minister was supported by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz: “The commander of the armed forces should tell the enemy what we will defend, not what we might give up. Our duty is to defend every centimeter of Poland.”

K. Nawrocki did not hold back and retorted to the Prime Minister: “Mr. Prime Minister, historian, today is September 17th. An important anniversary. Worth knowing: 87 years ago we lost territory, but we did not lose the homeland.” He also ironically urged the government not to review posts online but to focus on lowering fuel prices.
Reaction of the political community
The President’s words received a stormy reaction from other politicians as well. Roman Giertych from the “Civic Coalition” asked which part of the territory the president plans to give up. Government representative Adam Szłapka hoped it was simply a mistake, while Borys Budka called such a statement another presidential compromise.
Support for K. Nawrocki was expressed by Marek Ast from the “Law and Justice” (PiS) party, stating that the words were taken out of context and intended to emphasize spiritual resilience on the anniversary of the Soviet invasion. Meanwhile, Paweł Slisz (“Poland 2050”) called the statement “horrifying,” rhetorically asking how the head of state could talk about giving up territory.
