The project was initiated by the Western Shipyard (VLG) group of companies, in cooperation with the Klaipėda Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts. The authors of the artistic ideas are graphic design students Tomas Bičkus, Karolina Kupstaitė, and Smiltė Miliauskaitė.

Their idea to transfer the concept onto the building walls was undertaken by the well-known Lithuanian street artist Pijus Čeikauskas.
His works stand out with expressive wall painting compositions, modernly engaging the city architecture and industrial objects.
Developing the neo-fresco idea, the young creators relied on the old Klaipėda legend about the mysterious Sticky Foot – a gigantic being whose steps, according to tales, shook the earth, and who protected the city from uninvited visitors. This mythical story intertwines in the artwork with maritime industry symbols – the composition also immortalizes the name of Paul Willy Lindenau, one of the most important pioneers of modern shipbuilding in Klaipėda. The chosen color scheme subtly blends into the old town environment, allowing the artwork to become an organic part of Klaipėda’s urban rhythm.
According to Jolanta Toliušytė, head of the Communications and Advertising Department of the VLG group of companies, this project continues the long-standing partnership of the maritime industry with the culture and art community.

“Marine engineering and creative industries have different forms of expression, but both create the future – one very tangibly, the other more through ideas and visuals. Both fields require creativity, craftsmanship, courage to seek new solutions, and the ability to leave a meaningful, lasting mark. Therefore, it was important for us that not only a visually impressive artwork appeared on our building, but also a story about Klaipėda – its legends, maritime identity, and the people who shaped the city’s history. It is very symbolic that the public will see this work for the first time during the Sea Festival, when the city fills with life, community, and pride in its maritime identity. We invite everyone to join the procession, greet each other at Klaipėda’s biggest celebration, and together discover another unique city symbol that will remain here even after the waves of festivities have subsided,” says J. Toliušytė.
This year’s Sea Festival theme “Like in the movies” gives additional meaning to the neo-fresco. “Sticky Foot” reminds of frozen frames from a fantastic and historical film, where the legend becomes visible, and the city’s past meets the present. The VLG community will creatively interpret this idea in the festive procession. While the theatrical VLG film will show scenes of the group’s most impressive projects – from shipbuilding and repair to engineering solutions for energy and city infrastructure – those who make all this possible will follow behind.
For this year’s VLG procession, the metaphor “Heroes behind the scenes” was chosen. Alongside the most impressive “film” projects, engineers, project managers, welders, electricians, and many other professionals will march together with their family members, whose daily work creates stories worthy of the big screen.
