This was confirmed by the General Prosecutor’s Office representative Milda Rimkė to BNS.
“We inform that all persons involved in the incident have been questioned. Currently, we do not have data on injuries sustained by officers during the incident, their incapacity for work, or one of them being dragged. The circumstances of physical resistance to the officers’ detention actions are being investigated, so we cannot comment on them in detail,” the comment passed to BNS states.

Thus, law enforcement stated to the portal “Lrytas” on Friday after it published that during the incident in the operational territory of the Kapčiamiestis border post of the Varėna border unit at the end of July, one of the border officers was lightly injured, and migrants tried to drag him towards Belarusian territory.
According to the portal’s sources, the mentioned officer currently has incapacity for work. This was also confirmed to the portal by Vitalijus Jagminas, chairman of the Vilnius County pre-trial investigation institutions’ trade union.
Moreover, according to “Lrytas,” the head of the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), Rustam Liubajevas, allegedly gave instructions to border officers on what they should say about the incident.
Due to this situation, the Minister of the Interior, Martynas Katelynas, met with the Prosecutor General Nida Grunskienė on Friday. According to the minister, if the information about the injured officer is confirmed, he sees no possibility for R. Liubajevas to continue working.
During the pre-trial investigations, VSAT stated it could not comment to BNS on the circumstances of this event.
The portal “Delfi” was the first to report about the incident at the border last week. According to its data, in the Lazdijai district, in the territory of the Kapčiamiestis border post, after a tunnel dug under the state border was detected, four border guards set up an ambush.

The border guards detained several migrants and handcuffed them, but during the detention about 20 foreigners attacked the officers.
They had to flee, while the illegal migrants, including those handcuffed, escaped to Belarus. VSAT announced the found tunnel and the escaped migrants but remained silent about the attack on the officers.
R. Liubajevas repeatedly denied claims that officers could have been attacked; according to him, VSAT failed to establish such a fact.
Last week, the Prosecutor’s Office expanded and reclassified the initiated pre-trial investigation regarding illegal crossing of the state border in the operational territory of the Kapčiamiestis border post of the Varėna border unit.
The investigation was also expanded to clarify initial data and verify publicly announced information about circumstances related to the actions of responsible VSAT officers who organized and carried out state border monitoring, control, and protection functions, and to objectively and impartially assess the established facts.
In turn, M. Katelynas initiated an inspection of the VSAT leadership due to improper information dissemination about the incident.
