This was confirmed by the Presidency on Friday to BNS.
This norm, adopted by the Seimas in 2022, was supposed to come into force on September 1 of this year. Amendments regarding three exams from the 2026 academic year were adopted by the former conservative majority Seimas.

The requirement was to apply to both students studying in gymnasiums and students seeking secondary education in vocational training institutions.
However, last week the Seimas approved the ruling social democrats’ proposal to cancel such a procedure, so from this autumn, to graduate from school, it will still be enough to pass two state maturity exams – Lithuanian language and literature and one other, chosen by the student.
According to the currently valid procedure, three state maturity exams must be passed by those who want to receive a maturity certificate and enroll in higher education institutions. Such young people must have passed Lithuanian language and literature, mathematics, and one freely chosen exam.
