The Pope expressed concern over the tragic situation in Sudan, especially in the city of El Obeid. This largest city in the South Kordofan region has been experiencing intense drone strikes in recent weeks.
Due to these attacks, the United Nations (UN) declared a “red alert” over the developing disaster.
“Expressing spiritual closeness to all the people of this country, I repeatedly urge the responsible authorities to guarantee humanitarian corridors for civilians,” said Leo XIV after the “Angel of the Lord” prayer.
“At the same time, I call on the international community to support efforts aimed at an immediate ceasefire,” he said.

“Let us pray that the Lord supports those who suffer, opens the hearts of those who sow violence, and grants long-awaited peace,” added the pontiff.
The war between Sudan’s regular army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began in 2023. According to the UN, this conflict has caused the world’s largest displacement and hunger crises.
