53-year-old Haakon VIII, who became king on Friday morning after the death of his father King Harald V, aged 89, is to take the oath in the parliament’s grand hall at 1 p.m. local time (2 p.m. Lithuanian time).
The late king had huge public support despite a series of scandals that plagued his family during the last 35 years of his reign.
On Tuesday, a poll published by the public broadcaster NRK showed that support for the monarchy has clearly increased following Harald V’s death.
Almost three quarters of Norwegians (72%) said they supported the monarchy – eight percentage points more than in the previous poll in May, according to a study conducted over the weekend.
Last year was turbulent for the Norwegian royal family.
King Haakon VIII’s wife, Queen Mette-Marit, is under scrutiny for her connections to the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Her son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Høiby, is currently under house arrest while his appeal against a four-year prison sentence for two rapes is being considered.
On Monday, he was among those who carried the late king’s coffin to the chapel of the Royal Palace in Oslo, and he was also allowed to attend Harald V’s funeral on September 9.
53-year-old Mette-Marit suffers from a severe lung disease and underwent a lung transplant in June.
