The main highlight of the Year of Valančius – the mystery "Symphony of Light and Faith"

From 6 PM to 12 AM in Nasrėnai, at the Bishop’s birthplace homestead, there will be light, sound, and visual graphics installations “The Beginning of Beginnings. For Eternity.” The installations will newly reveal an authentic granary, the monument will be highlighted in the light, and the artistic journey will symbolically lead to the main mystery space – the Church of St. Lawrence on Kalnalis. The same evening, the mystery “Symphony of Light and Faith” will be shown twice – at 7 PM and 9 PM. Participation in the event is free, but the number of seats in the church is limited, so advance registration is required. The registration link will be published on the Kretinga District Cultural Center’s Facebook page.

Historical Memory – The Language of Contemporary Art

The author and director of the mystery, Nerijus Gedminas, aims to combine different art genres, professional and amateur performers, traditional forms, and contemporary artistic expression tools into a unified stage event. At the center is the creative legacy of M. K. Valančius and the moral values he nurtured, viewed through the eyes of today’s person. Actor Linas Lukošius will act as a guide through time: maintaining the observer’s position, he will help the audience look from the outside at the most important works and ideas of M. K. Valančius and rethink their significance today.

The video projections of the mystery by Aurėja Jucevičiūtė will become an important part of the stage event, combining music, theater, and dance into a unified artistic whole.

The musical part of the mystery will consist of the “Missa brevis” by Dutch composer Jacob de Haan, performed by a joint choir. The clear melodic lines and traditional harmony of the piece will gain new colors, blending with the sound of wind instruments, the timbre of the organ, ambient musical sounds, dance, and theatrical expression.
