Before the premiere, the director revealed that sometimes the filming set itself resembled a horror-filled script – especially one scene that almost cost the lead actor his life.

A short episode from that scene can be seen in the chilling trailer of the new film. Here we see the character Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, running down the street, while zombies jump from the roofs of buildings on both sides, splattering blood. Z. Cregger revealed how this scene was filmed and told about a dangerous incident that almost ended tragically.
“It was a huge challenge to figure out how to realize the idea: Austin runs while bodies fall and explode around him. I knew I didn’t want to use computer effects because I’m sure viewers can easily spot those. So I thought about how to make all the explosions real? Then we found a solution – we used many cranes and prepared human-sized artificial blood bags, all that was left was to carefully rehearse the falling trajectories and the actor’s running speed. A. Abrams had to run while the bags were released, falling next to him and instantly exploding. One of them went off too early and flew just a few centimeters past Austin. Each of those bags weighed about 68 kilograms – that would have killed him. If he had taken even one step to the right, he would have died. But this exact filmed shot made it into the movie,” revealed Z. Cregger.

According to him, the new thriller looks like one huge, continuous sequence. The intense action picks up around the fifth minute of the film and doesn’t let the viewer relax until the very end.
“What I like most about this franchise’s games is that you move from one impressive scene or challenge to another. Every moment you know – you have some unique task assigned. This is exactly the experience I wanted to transfer from the computer game to the big screen. I wanted the viewer to feel like they are running through a dangerous obstacle course,” says the director.

According to Z. Cregger, the film’s idea was to give the audience a mission – to follow the “idiot” main character.
“Not that he is stupid. But he doesn’t look like a typical game character: Bryan has no combat skills and absolutely no survival skills in extreme conditions. He is an ordinary person burdened with a sacred mission that will lead him into the very heart of the events. It’s somewhat reminiscent of Frodo’s journey to Mordor,” the creator said before the film’s presentation.
The new “Absolute Evil” tells the story of Bryan, a medical courier who gets a late-night job – to deliver a package to another city. It eventually turns out that what seems like a simple task, with a promised double reward, becomes a terrifying, nonstop fight for survival.
The chilling horror thriller “Absolute Evil” from the famous franchise will start showing in Lithuanian cinemas this Friday, September 18.
