The government proposes that the Seimas consider the possibility of preserving the Family Council as a budgetary institution

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the conclusion prepared by the Ministry of Social Security and Labour (SADM) last week, but not unanimously – the Minister of Justice Rita Tamašunienė voted against it.

Proposed to oppose

The initial version of the conclusion did not include a proposal to keep the National Family Council as a budgetary institution.

“Strengthening the Family Council is more important than ever, and the proposal to abandon the National Family Council as a budgetary institution, in our opinion, would weaken the independent analysis of family policy,” R. Tamašunienė said at the Government meeting.

“(This – BNS) would reduce the Parliament’s ability to effectively oversee family policy and disrupt cooperation between municipalities, ministries, and Parliament, breaking the institutional experience and continuity accumulated over recent years,” she explained.
