Ukraine marked its Independence Day anniversary with a completely different kind of demonstration: combat robots rolled down the main street of Kyiv, marine drones flew over the waters of the Dnipro River, and unmanned aerial vehicles took to the sky. As described by the news portal “Defence Blog,” this was the world’s first military parade fully dedicated to unmanned systems.

At the event held on Monday, traditional columns of tanks, armored vehicles, and marching soldiers were replaced by technologies that have become a symbol of Ukraine’s defense against the large-scale Russian invasion.
According to reports in the media and social networks, robotic platforms designed for combat, reconnaissance, logistics, and other frontline missions were moving along Kyiv’s Khreshchatyk Street.
Ukrainian military drones, including “Magura” and “Sea Baby,” were demonstrated in the Dnipro River. Both were essential elements in the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ fight against the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
The water part of the parade showcased reconnaissance platforms, attack drones, and their versions equipped with air defense missiles, aiming to show how Ukraine has expanded the role of unmanned marine drones, which now surpass their initial purpose – to explode.
Above the Ukrainian capital, dozens of drones used daily for combat survival buzzed, including reconnaissance systems, attack UAVs, and interception aircraft designed to neutralize approaching aerial threats.
This unique parade allowed an assessment of how much the Ukrainian Armed Forces have changed since Russia began its brutal and unprovoked invasion on February 24, 2022.

As noted by “Defence Blog,” initially drones in Ukraine mostly performed auxiliary roles, only later becoming key components of Ukraine’s operations on land, air, and water.
Since then, Kyiv has solidified this transformation by establishing the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate branch of the military, currently led by Robertas Brovdis, known by the call sign Madjar.
President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law in 2024 establishing these forces, making Ukraine the first country to create a separate military service branch specializing specifically in the use of unmanned systems for combat operations.
Since then, June 11 is celebrated annually as the Day of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
It is worth noting that since the start of the large-scale invasion, Ukraine has never held a traditional military parade.
In previous years, destroyed Russian tanks, armored vehicles, and other equipment captured or destroyed during battles were displayed in the center of Kyiv.
According to media reports, Ukraine plans to expand its fleet of unmanned ground robots, aiming to produce at least 50,000 combat and logistics robots this year to strengthen infantry units and compensate for the shortage of soldiers on the front line.
