“I don’t know how your day is going, but the disaster affected me personally. A tree fell on my car. Luckily, there were no passengers in the car.
On the way home from Vilkaviškis, I had to stop several times because of trees fallen on the road,” wrote L. Girskienė.
Terrifying powerful storm
The storm battering Lithuania on Saturday has already claimed a victim. Strong winds in various cities across the country knocked down trees, and two such incidents ended very tragically. The Fire and Rescue Department (PAGD) told 15min about the accidents.

As confirmed to 15min by the Fire and Rescue Department, one of the most tragic incidents caused by the storm was recorded in the Anykščiai district, in the village of Mažionys, Troškūnai eldership, where a man was crushed by a tree toppled by strong wind. The accident ended tragically – medics who arrived confirmed the man’s death.
As reported by the Utena County Police, the body of a man born in 1966 was found lifeless under a tree fallen into a body of water in the village of Mažionys at about 16:07.
