As Palanga’s mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus stated on Sunday, it will take several days to clean the entire beach.

“Such is our beloved sea – sometimes calm, sometimes with character,” wrote Š. Vaitkus.

The Baltic Sea has washed up the most seaweed near the Palanga pier. In some areas, there is so much that almost the entire beach is covered.

The seaweed is loaded onto trucks and taken to the waste disposal site. The exact amount collected will be known once the work is completed.

On Tuesday, municipal workers were again working from early morning, just after dawn.

Gediminas Valinevičius, head of the Palanga municipal services, said that the work near the Palanga pier is already finished. Now the situation in other places will be assessed.

According to him, it is still difficult to say how much seaweed has been removed. “When the Klaipėda region waste management center provides the invoices, then we will see,” he said.

However, in Šventoji there are places where the view is still not very pleasant to the eye.

Aušra Augulienė, who shared photos from the Šventoji coast in the Facebook group “Fotografuoju Lietuvą,” wrote that this is what the “seaweed-darkened Šventoji” looks like.

Although some commenters wondered why it is not cleaned up, others said that such a view is not everywhere on Šventoji beaches. It is said that this only looks like this near the old pier, while other places are clean. This place is characterized by the fact that the sea constantly brings large amounts of seaweed here.
