According to police data, the individuals in the other vehicle involved in the collision – three women (two in their late thirties and one over 20) and a boy – are still being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

Was this done to gain popularity on social networks?

Irish police commissioner Justin Kelly called this car collision “horrific” and emphasized that “in some cases” driving in the opposite lane on motorways is done to gain popularity on social networks.

Last weekend, during a head-on collision in Dublin on the M50 motorway, when a car was driving in the opposite direction, nine people were injured.

Describing Sunday’s accident, J. Kelly said: “These family members were driving without suspecting anything bad when a vehicle driving in the opposite lane of the motorway crashed into them.

This horrific incident, which occurred after a recent accident on the M50 motorway, shows how irresponsible and dangerous driving in the opposite lane of a motorway is.

Of course, this should be self-evident, but what makes this reckless behavior even worse is that in some cases it is done to get ‘likes’ on social networks, regardless of the potentially devastating consequences it can cause to innocent people and the drivers themselves.”

He added: “Since this particular incident has been referred to the police oversight body Fiosrú for investigation, I cannot provide more detailed information about it, but I know that police officers are doing everything they can to stop such vehicles, while also considering all other road users.
