The additional 5 MHz frequency resource has already been activated in the „Tele2“ network, so now the operator has a total of 10 MHz in the 700 MHz band. The additional frequencies are currently used in 4G technology. The 700 MHz frequency band is especially important for wide mobile coverage.

Due to its technical characteristics, the signal of this frequency can propagate over a greater distance and better reach users inside buildings or in less densely populated areas. The additional resource also allows more efficient use of the already operating „Tele2“ infrastructure as mobile internet usage grows.
„The additional 700 MHz resource will strengthen network coverage and increase its capacity and speed, so our customers will benefit,“ says Valerij Kovzan, Technical Director for the Baltic countries at „Tele2“.
„Tele2“ operates through 1630 base stations, of which more than 1190 are 5G. The company’s 5G network is available to 90%, and 4G to 99.99% of Lithuania’s population.

Since 2021, the company has already invested nearly 14 million euros in the 5G network in Lithuania. The 4G network is also being modernized – increasing the capacity of base stations, updating equipment, and more efficiently using the available frequency resources.
This year, „Tele2“ not only supplemented the existing 700 MHz spectrum but also acquired a 20 MHz block in the 1500 MHz frequency band and extended the licenses for the existing 2100 MHz frequencies. Thus, the company continues to strengthen its frequency portfolio and creates conditions for network capacity to grow along with customer needs.
