According to him, in the first half of 2026, Ukraine managed to systematically organize the construction of multilayer defensive fortifications, develop protection against drones, and prepare settlements for defense.
“Despite heavy losses, the enemy continues to increase weapons production, prepares for new offensive operations on a wide front, looks for weak spots in our defense, and tries to break through between defensive positions,” said O. Syrskyi.
According to him, under such conditions, fortifications, engineering obstacles, and drone protection are some of the most important elements of modern defense, helping to reduce the enemy’s offensive capabilities and save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
As reported by “Ukrinform”, during a working meeting on fortifications, O. Syrskyi listened to reports from the Joint Forces Group commander, army group commanders, the State Special Transport Service, regional military administration heads, and other officials about the progress of defensive works, drone protection, and the readiness of settlements for defense.

“We thoroughly analyzed existing problems, identified specific solutions, and set priority tasks. Our goal remains unchanged – to prevent the enemy from implementing aggressive plans, maintain the initiative in defense, and stabilize the front,” emphasized the commander of the Ukrainian army.
He added that there is still a lot of work ahead that must be done timely and qualitatively, as Ukraine’s defense resilience, the success of military operations, and soldiers’ lives directly depend on it.
“Ukrinform” reminds that Ukrainian engineering units continue to strengthen multilayer defensive fortifications in the north of the country, including the border with Belarus, aiming to prevent possible sudden attacks by Russian forces in potential offensive directions.
