The police report states that a 26-year-old man, identified in media reports as an Afghan citizen, was detained and added that he “confessed to committing the crime.”

“Officers from the Organized Crime Directorate solved the murder of a 38-year-old UK citizen, whose body was found on July 18 in a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kipseli district,” they said.
Officers filed criminal charges against him for “intentional murder, robbery, and violation of firearms laws.”
The woman, identified in media reports as Elisabeth-Jane Ross from Scotland, arrived in Greece on June 26 and lived at a friend’s house in Piraeus until July 10, after which she left for an unknown destination in the Athens region, police reported.

“It turned out that the 26-year-old man put the body in a suitcase and transported it to abandoned premises. Moreover, in the following days, he used the victim’s bank cards to withdraw money,” the police said.
It is reported that the suspect claimed to have found the victim already dead.
US Interpol officers helped identify the victim’s fingerprints, and the investigation involved liaison officers from the UK’s National Crime Agency and the Scottish police.
“Despite severe decomposition and unfavorable environmental conditions, the investigators managed to identify usable fingerprints of the victim,” the police stated.
