“Nighttime weather conditions allowed (…) to cool the area and strengthen the perimeter; it is clearly stabilized, has not expanded for several days, there are few smoldering spots left and almost no flames,” said the Madrid regional prefecture, adding that only about 1,000 people remain evacuated.
However, officials warned that the ongoing heatwave poses a threat of fire resurgence in areas west of Madrid, where more than 25,000 hectares have already burned.
“The meteorological fire risk remains very high, and in some areas even extreme, so efforts will focus on maintaining perimeter stability, monitoring new outbreaks, and cooling hotspots,” said the Madrid regional authorities.
