„I don’t have such information, a process is probably underway somewhere, so I don’t know, maybe it’s not over yet,“ V.Bitinas told BNS.

Asked to confirm his participation in the competition, he initially said it was a „personal question,“ but later did not deny participating.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, which announced the competition, told BNS that the procedures have not yet been completed, so it is not announcing the winner.

„The procedure for the competition for the position of head of the institution is not yet completed. (…) After the competition, candidate checks are carried out by competent institutions, which are an essential part of the appointment procedure,“ the ministry stated in a comment to BNS.

„Until all necessary conclusions are received and a final decision is made regarding the candidate’s appointment to the position, information about the candidate selected in the competition is not provided,“ she added.

50-year-old V.Bitinas currently still works on the boards of „Regitra“ and the LTG Competence Center. He has been the Technology Director of the LTG group since November 2022. Before that, he was the chairman of the board of the gas transmission system operator „Amber Grid“ and the strategy and development director of the energy group „Epso-G“, and even earlier – the head of the Business and Technology Development unit and the Strategy and Development department of Lietuvos paštas (Lithuanian Post).

V.Bitinas has worked at the consulting company „Ernst & Young“, at the then „Lietuvos energija“ (now „Ignitis grupė“), where he was responsible for the Visaginas nuclear power plant and smart electricity distribution network projects, and headed the business development unit of the IT company „BlueBridge“.

As BNS wrote, the competition for the head of the Registry Center was announced in May, after Adrijus Jusas resigned from his position following the public announcement of a large data theft.

The institution is temporarily headed by Giedrius Cininas, head of the Registry Center’s Prevention Department.

It was announced that the Prosecutor General’s Office is investigating possible illegal logins and the appropriation of more than 600,000 real estate registry entries, including people’s personal identification numbers. According to law enforcement, the logins occurred through Migration Department employee accounts „hacked“ from abroad.
