Unexpected death
The news of the sudden death of the energetic parliamentarian J. Šuklinas was something his friends and comrades said they could not believe and still correct themselves by speaking about him in the present tense, not the past.
J. Šuklinas was found collapsed on Thursday evening at his home estate in the Zarasai district; medics were unable to save him.
Colleagues, who had been together since the beginning of their political careers, childhood friends, and business partners say that J. Šuklinas could not stay still for a minute, had countless activities, and pursued his goals sincerely and with great athlete’s passion.
J. Šuklinas, after finishing his sports career, turned to politics in 2014, when with the committee “Visaginas – that’s us” he became a member of the Visaginas council and held these positions for a decade, at one point even serving as the acting mayor of Visaginas. In 2022, he joined the Liberal Movement, and by 2024 he entered the Seimas. He also ran for the European Parliament but was not elected.
