She was born on March 10, 1987, in Sunderland (England) and grew up in Scotland. Her father is from Zambia, and her mother is English.
Interestingly, before fully immersing herself in music, Emeli studied medicine at the University of Glasgow. However, after achieving success as a songwriter and performer, she decided to drop out and dedicate her full attention to her musical career.
